Simpsons AppStore game pulled by EA: too popular

Electronic Arts released a new game based in the Simpsons world last week – ‘The Simpsons: Tapped Out’ has proven so popular however that it has had to be pulled from the store, due to a strain on the servers.
The game uses the same voice actors as the television series and fans of the popular cartoon series have been buying the game in the millions. The game is based around a nuclear explosion which hit Springfield. As expected this was caused by the loveable clown Homer.
It is the players job to rebuild the city, using quests to get donuts, which is the currency in the game. Once you get enough donuts you can unlock the in game characters. Cleverly, the game uses a system where gamers can bypass some of the missions and just pay extra to get more donuts.
Even EA weren’t expecting the game to be this popular however and they have had to pull it from the store within only 4 days ! They claim that the demand for the game placed an overwhelming demand on the game’s servers which was causing ‘degradation in experience’. Players who already have the game however can continue to play.
Electronic Arts say “To make sure you current players have the best possible experience, we’ve temporarily removed The Simpsons: Tapped Out from the App Store. Yes, as a current player you can keep playing — and things should only get better as we make improvements to connectivity. Once we have a solution, we’ll return the game to the App Store so new players can join in the fun. Meanwhile, thank you for your patience and support.”
Updates will be announced over here.
